The rules and regulations stated in this PRIMER are intended to enhance the life in school of an Agnesian as he/she relates and interacts with the members of the school community. As a Catholic school, with Religious Formation as the core of the curriculum, SAA requires Agnesians to attend and participate actively in liturgical and spiritual exercises scheduled during the school year. The enrollment of a student in SAA is taken as an expressed willingness on his/her part and consequently his/ her parents and/or guardians to abide by all rules and regulations of the school. SAA reserves the right to admit, re-admit, refuse or dismiss a student on the basis of his/ her academic and/or conduct performance and attendance. SAA asserts itself in the exercise of its role “in loco parentis”. This means that the school undertakes the formations of its students in the expression of parental care and concern.

A. DECORUM AND BEHAVIOR

Agnesians are expected to exhibit proper decorum at all times. REFINEMENT in speech and manner is the mark of a true Agnesian.

  1. The usual norms of politeness and etiquette are to be observed in dealing with all members of the school community.
  2. Students are expected to exercise self-discipline and responsibility at all times whether in or out of school.
  3.  Students are expected to be equipped with all the school materials they need for the different subjects.
  4. Students are enjoined to take proper care of their belongings and to respect those of others

B. ATTIRE AND GROOMING

1. The students are expected to wear the following during the scheduled virtual or online class.

OLD STUDENTS :

SAA white shirt/any white shirt/PE shirt and jogging pants /jeans

NEW STUDENTS:
SAA white shirt/ PE shirt/plain white shirt and jeans

2.Students are expected to be neat at all times. The girls are not allowed to wear cosmetics such as lip gloss, face powder with color, eyeliner and mascara. Likewise vein tattoos are not allowed.

3.Nails should be kept clean and short. Nail polish is not allowed.

4.Hair must be simply cut and neatly combed. Dyeing and streaking are not allowed. Boys’ haircut should be 2” x 3”. The length should be no longer than the top of the shirt collar and must be well above the eyebrows. Sideburns may extend not longer than the bottom ear lobes and must not extend toward the cheeks.

DISCIPLINE AS FORMATION

A. PHILOSOPHY

Discipline as a Benedictine Value

St. Benedict in his Holy Rule says: “Therefore we intend to establish a school for the Lord’s service. In drawing up its regulations, we hope to set down nothing harsh or burdensome. The good of all concerned however may prompt us to a little strictness in order to amend faults and to safeguard love” (Prologue w 45-47, Rule of St. Benedict).

Discipline is a primary Benedictine value. Hence every Agnesian is expected to exercise self-discipline in his/her academic pursuits as well as in his/her social dealings. Students are held responsible for knowing and complying with the rules of proper conduct as stated in the Primer.

Discipline is a form of guidance. The purpose of discipline is to help in the formation and personality development of the student. Firm, fair and just discipline is the foundation of an effective and efficient institution. The school’s philosophy and objectives can be achieved only when the students manifest obedience to the rules of orderly conduct, exercise self- control, show consideration for the rights of others and accept the consequences of their acts.

And again, St. Benedict reminds the ABBOT: “When he must punish, he should use prudence and avoid extremes; otherwise by rubbing too hard to remove the rust, he may break the vessel. He is to distrust his own frailty and remember not to break the bruised reed. This too is an important reminder to administrators, teachers and parents.

DISCIPLINE AS A SCHOOL’S RESPONSIBILITY

The school’s authority to discipline members of its student body rests on the authority given to school administrators by the Department of Education as contained in the Manual of Regulations for private Schools.

The three categories of discipline, administrative sanctions for serious offenses or violation of school rules and regulations which may be applied on an erring student are Suspension, Exclusion and Expulsion

Section 75: Imposition of Disciplinary Action

B. ENFORCEABILITY OF RULES ON SCHOOL DISCIPLINE

St. Agnes Academy requires its students to conform to the rules of proper behavior and conduct at all times consistent with the Benedictine education. Thus, it can enforce its rules and regulations whenever the student:

  • is anywhere within/outside the school premises;
  • commits acts or omission contrary to values upheld by the school or

prejudicial to the good name and reputation of the school.

No penalty is ever pleasant– not for the one who gives nor for the one who receives it. Nonetheless, violation of rules and regulations calls for appropriate punishment to be given in the spirit of justice and understanding.  St. Agnes Academy requires its students to conform to the rules of proper behavior and conduct at all times consistent with the Benedictine education. Thus, it can enforce its rules and regulations whenever the student:
